No 'Sir' for Southgate (Sep 3rd)

After guiding England into the semi-finals of this year’s World Cup and eventually achieving a fourth place finish, it was expected that Gareth Southgate may have been recognised for his efforts in some way.

However, if a knighthood was in the thoughts of the former Middlesbrough man, he’ll have to think again, as it was revealed the government intends to block honours for people who avoid tax.

Southgate put money into a film production company in 2016, a company now involved in a large tax dodging case.

Ings has bet with former teammate Salah (Sep 3rd)

Danny Ings has had a friendly bet with his former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah that he can score more goals than him this season.

The Southampton striker bagged again on Saturday as his side beat Crystal Palace 2-0.

Liverpool’s Egyptian striker hasn’t been at his brilliant best just yet this campaign but still has two Premier League goals to his name – on par with Ings.

Man United private jet fail on deadline day (Sep 3rd)

With Manchester United on the hunt for a centre back, Diego Godin became a serious target as the transfer window came to a close during August.

It’s been reported that the club had a private jet on standby but had to cancel it when any move for the Uruguayan didn’t come to fruition.

As it happened, Jose Mourinho had to make do with no new defender.

No such goal trouble for Ronaldo Jnr. (Sep 3rd)

Whilst Ronaldo has yet to open his account for the Italian champions, there’s been no such issues for his 8-year-old son.

Over the weekend, Ronaldo Jnr. scored four goals for one of Juventus’ youth teams.

It sounds very much like he could be a chip off the old block.

Foxes keen on Drinkwater return (Sep 3rd)

Leicester City are monitoring Danny Drinkwater’s situation at Chelsea with a keen eye, with the hope of potentially bring him back to the King Power in January.

The former Foxes man helped Leicester win the league in his time as the club, but since moving to Chelsea, hasn’t enjoyed the best of times.

It’s thought Maurizio Sarri may be open to allowing the Englishman to leave.

Sane treatment scares City squad (Sep 3rd)

Pep Guardiola deciding to leave Leroy Sane out of the match day squad for Manchester City’s game with Newcastle on Saturday has sent shockwaves around the squad.

The Spaniard’s treatment of the German winger has apparently led to the rest of his side fearing for their place on future team sheets.

It’s a good job the former Barcelona boss has a very good squad to pick from!

Mustafi in hot water after celebration (Sep 3rd)

Shkodran Mustafi could be in for a dressing down by The FA after his goal celebration during Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Cardiff City.

The German made what is thought to be a political gesture with his hands after scoring the opening goal of the game – similar to the one Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri displayed during the World Cup.

Neither of those two players received any repercussion, however.

Marcelo wants Ronaldo reunion (Sep 3rd)

Real Madrid defender Marcelo is reportedly hopeful of a reunion with Ronaldo as he eyes a move following his former teammate to Juventus.

The Brazilian left-back yet again had a top drawer season last year, so any deal would likely involve large figures.

It’s unclear if Juventus do have any interest in the defender, but you’d be surprised if they didn’t.

Bumper contract likely for De Gea (Sep 3rd)

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is set to sign a new contract with the club, worth a reported £350,000 per week.

Arguably the best ‘keeper in the league, De Gea has long since been linked to a move back to Spain, with a Real Madrid deal coming as close as a miss-directed fax.

His allegiance since then, however, appears to have earned the Spaniard a rather large pay rise.

West Ham would have to break the bank to bin Pellegrini (Sept 4th)

Whilst the word from the West Ham board is that Manuel Pellegrini is safe in his Hammers job, the fans are certainly not all comfortable with that same rhetoric. Four losses from four to begin a season is never going to delight the east London faithful, but even worse is that should the club wish to sack the Chilean, it would reportedly cost around £15m, largely due to there being no break clause in his active deal.

City to hold off on Kompany contract talks (Sept 4th)

Manchester City will wait until the end of the season before offering Vincent Kompany a new contract at the club. The Belgian centre-back celebrated 10 years at City last weekend, but is undoubtedly in the twilight of his career. The 32-year-old has suffered with regular injury issues throughout his time in the Premier League.

Klopp has no goalkeeper rotation plans (Sept 4th)

Jurgen Klopp has declared his desire to limit goalkeeper rotation this season, making it clear Alisson will be his number one for Champions League games. The 25-year-old Brazilian has made an assured start to life on Merseyside, if you exclude Saturday’s mishap away at Leicester. The club’s number two stopper, Simon Mignolet, looks set for an extended spell on the bench.

Sterling pulls out of England squad (Sept 4th)

Raheem Sterling has pulled out of England’s international squad for fixtures against Spain and Switzerland, citing a back problem. The Manchester City winger is a key player for Gareth Southgate as his side look to make a solid start in the newly devised ‘Nations League’ format. Pep Guardiola will be hoping it’s nothing long term, as Sterling has hit the ground running at the Etihad after returning from the World Cup.

Hornets set to reward Gracia (Sept 4th)

Javi Gracia is set to be rewarded for his excellent start to the Premier League season by being offered a new and improved contract. The Watford boss has overseen four wins from four to kick off the campaign – one of only three sides to do that so far this season. Gracia’s current contract expires next summer, so club bosses are keen to get the matter resolved quickly.

Mustafi avoids FA action over celebration (Sept 4th)

Shkodran Mustafi has avoided any further action from The FA regarding his celebration in Sunday’s game against Cardiff City. The German was seen doing a political hand gesture after scoring the game’s opening goal. The FA have dismissed any allegations of wrongdoing on Mustafi’s part, with no further punishment or action to be taken.

Dembele could be heading east in January (Sept 4th)

Various reports suggest Tottenham and Belgium midfielder Moussa Dembele will head to China in January to continue his career. Spurs were reportedly open to offers for the 31-year-old during the summer, but without any player purchases, it was unlikely he’d have been allowed to leave. Mauricio Pochettino will likely have to replace the number 19, should he depart north London.

Mourinho bullish over keeping his job (Sept 4th)

Jose Mourinho already seems under pressure this season, thanks to a below-par start to the year for his side. The Manchester United manager is not worried about losing his job, however, claiming that it would cost the club “a fortune” should they sack him. Seems the ‘Special One’ also believes he’s the ‘Invincible One’.

FA considering 2030 World Cup bid (Sept 4th)

The FA are considering a joint bid for the 2030 World Cup with Ireland, in an attempt to hold the prestigious tournament for the first time since 1966. It’s thought the inclusion of Ireland within the proposals would hold a number of advantages, with one being that votes the UK wouldn’t normally win for its associations may go towards Ireland instead, increasing the chances of a successful bid.

Mane scoops first Player of the Month award (Sept 4th)

Sadio Mane has picked up the first Player of the Month award of the season, thanks to his electric start to the 2018/19 campaign. The Liverpool forward has scored 4 goals this term, including a brace against West Ham in the Reds’ opening fixture. The Senegalese man will be hoping to continue his good form after the international break.

Pogba wants January exit (Sept 4th)

Paul Pogba has reportedly told Manchester United that he wants to leave the club in January – and head back to Juventus. The Frenchman re-joined United from the Italian giants but it’s thought he now wants a return to Turin. Understandably, Jose Mourinho won’t be keen to lose such a big player midway through the season.

Terry could be set for European move (Sept 5th)

John Terry could be on his way to Portugal to play, after Sporting Lisbon registered their interest in the Englishman. The former Chelsea player had also been linked with a return to Aston Villa, where manager Steve Bruce was keen for him to return, but Sporting appear to be favourites, assuming presidential candidate Pedro Madeira Rodrigues wins the upcoming election at the Portuguese club.

Neymar makes scathing Liverpool prediction (Sept 5th)

Speaking ahead of his side’s clash with Liverpool in the Champions League, PSG star Neymar predicted that Liverpool would not even make the top four this season, let alone challenge Manchester City for the title. The Brazil forward thought City would win the league again, with United (2nd), Chelsea (3rd) and Spurs (4th) making up the rest of the European places.

Lallana injured with England (Sept 5th)

Adam Lallana has pulled out of the England squad for games against Spain and Switzerland with a groin injury. The Liverpool midfielder suffered the problem during a training session with Gareth Southgate’s side. He’s returned to Liverpool to begin treatment with no prognosis yet determined.

Messi believes the gap to Barcelona has closed (Sept 5th)

Lionel Messi thinks the attractiveness gap to Barcelona – and fellow La Liga side Real Madrid – has now been closed by Manchester City and Paris St-Germain, thanks largely to the spending power the two clubs have. He said: “Wherever the most money is, that’s where they [players] end up going. Things have changed and now the owners of clubs are multi-millionaires.”

Henderson admits he must still improve (Sept 5th)

Jordan Henderson has admitted he still has to improve after signing a brand new, five-year deal with Liverpool. The Reds captain has been a mainstay at the club for many years, taking the armband from Steven Gerrard back in 2015. Henderson said: “I can certainly improve and be better in certain areas. Under Jurgen Klopp, there’s no better manager to do that.”

Luke Shaw reveals he could have lost leg after double break (Sept 5th)

Back in the England squad after some impressive displays for Manchester United, Luke Shaw is once again finding his footballing feet. However, the left-back has revealed how, after his double leg break against PSV in Eindhoven, back in 2015, he was one flight away from having an amputation. Speaking about the ordeal, Shaw said: “At the time, they were thinking about flying me back [to the UK]. If I had flown back, I would probably have lost my leg because of the blood clots. No one knows I was really close to losing my leg.”

Alli reveals how a Russian bracelet is now a lucky charm (Sept 5th)

Dele Alli has explained how the gift of a bracelet from a Russian taxi driver is now one of is lucky charms. After suffering an injury during the World Cup, he was sent for a scan to determine if his tournament was to be over. The driver handed Alli a bracelet, declaring it would be good luck – and it might well have been! The scan was clear and the midfielder was free to carry on playing. The 22-year-old has since kept it, taking it in his wash bag on match days.

VAR testing set to step up a gear (Sept 5th)

VAR testing in the Premier League is set to step up a gear, as the first Premier League “multi-match” trial takes place. On September 15th, all 3pm kick-offs will simultaneously have VAR usage, with Premier League chiefs keen to prove that the system can work when posed with a busy schedule.

Arsenal linked with former Chelsea man (Sept 5th)

Arsenal have been reportedly eyeing a move for former Chelsea defender Filipe Luis, currently at Atletico Madrid. The left-back had an unconvincing spell in the Premier League with the Blues, but Unai Emery is thought to be keen to add the Brazilian to his squad in January. The 33-year-old’s contract ends next summer.

Hernandez on Man United radar (Sept 5th)

Lucas Hernandez is being eyed by Manchester United as they look to add competition to their defensive positions. The Frenchman, who is now a World Cup winner, is versatile and can play at left-back or at centre-back – something that reportedly appeals to Jose Mourinho. The 22-year-old has a £72m release clause.

Southgate considering Ings call-up (Sept 6th)

Southampton forward Danny Ings could be set for an England call-up this year, with Gareth Southgate watching his progress intently. Southgate is apparently a fan of Ings and is keeping track of his progress at Southampton. The forward has had a good start to his Saints career with two goals in three starts for the club in the Premier League.

Vertonghen expecting contract extension (Sept 6th)

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen is expecting the club to extend his current contract by a further year, keeping him in north London until 2020. The 31-year-old Belgian defender has been a key figure at the back for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and they are keen not to lose the centre-back.

Zaha set to make generous CPFC Ladies donation (Sept 6th)

Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha is set to play a key role in helping out the club’s womens team with their development. The Eagles had recently been told that they would need to raise a total of £250 per player for the side to be able to survive beyond this season. Zaha has recently signed a new deal with the club and has contacted Palace to confirm financial help for the Ladies squad.

Spurs may play at Wembley all season (Sept 6th)

Tottenham have reportedly extended their Wembley stay to December 15th, with officials warning Spurs chairman Daniel Levy that the club may have to commit to playing there for the whole season. Delays at the new ground have caused a big push back in the planned opening date, with Boxing Day now seemingly the earliest it will host a competitive game.

Joachim Low not fazed by Ozil exclusion (Sept 6th)

Germany manager Joachim Low has claimed that not selecting Mesut Ozil is no issue. Low hinted that there are no plans to bring Ozil back at any point, after the midfielder decided to make himself unavailable for Germany. Ozil released a statement after the World Cup claiming that he felt he was being made a scapegoat for Germany’s poor tournament.

Nuno added to Old Trafford shortlist (Sept 6th)

Wolves boss Nuno Santo has reportedly been added to a Manchester United shortlist of managers who could succeed Jose Mourinho, should he leave Old Trafford. Mourinho is thought to be under pressure already this season, after a mediocre start to the campaign. Zinedine Zidane is widely considered to be the Red Devils’ first choice.

Guardiola turns strict to keep title bid in check (Sept 6th)

Pep Guardiola has taken steps to ban mobile phones in ‘working spaces’ at City’s training complex. The Spaniard is so keen to keep the title bid alive, he’s also introduced a shake up with the club’s fine system. A flat fee will have to be paid by players for things such as arriving late for training. Prohibited phone areas include analysis sessions, team meetings, in the gym and training pitches at the City Football Academy.

Benfica face three year ban from football (Sept 6th)

Reports from Portugal suggest Benfica are potentially facing a ban of three years from playing football after being accused of a number of complex crimes, including the alleged ‘infiltration of the country’s judicial system’. In total, the club have to answer to 79 supposedly committed crimes.

City eyeing £54m-rated Junior Firpo (Sept 6th)

Manchester City could be looking to splash the cash once more as Spanish reports suggest the Blues are lining up a move for Real Betis defender Junior Firpo. The Dominican Republic-born is a Spain U21 international. The 22-year-old can play at centre-back as well as left-back, something that supposedly appeals to Pep Guardiola.

Liverpool make contact with agent of Adrien Rabiot (Sept 6th)

Liverpool have made their first move in pursuit of Paris St-Germain midfielder, Adrien Rabiot. The Frenchman has a contract that expires next summer and the Reds want to agree a deal for him to join in January. The Merseysiders have made initial contact with Rabiot’s mother, who is his agent, in an attempt to get ahead of the competition.

Usmanov eyeing next purchase after Arsenal exit (Sept 7th)

Alisher Usmanov, the former Arsenal shareholder, is considering buying another football club now he’s cashed in his Gunners shares. It’s thought the Uzbek-Russian is looking at Charlton Athletic as a potential target. The £600m is obviously burning a hole in his pocket!

Klopp strict on language lessons for his squad (Sept 7th)

It has been revealed that Jurgen Klopp makes all his foreign players learn English as a non-negotiable part of joining the Reds. Any player who isn’t keen likely won’t be signed or, if they already have, won’t be around too long. The rationale behind this is mainly the obvious – Klopp wants to be able to fully communicate with his players before match days.

Jorginho to City was as good as done (Sept 7th)

The agent of Italian midfielder Jorginho has confirmed that the 26-year-old had all but agreed to join Manchester City and was happy to do so, only for City to fail to agree a deal with Napoli for his signature. He then ultimately signed for Chelsea as they did manage to negotiate a purchase. Jorginho has settled in very quickly at Stamford Bridge, already looking like a shrewd by for Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Henderson was close to joining City in 2015 (Sept 7th)

Whilst we all know that Manchester City were able to sign Raheem Sterling from Liverpool back in 2015, what wasn’t such common knowledge was that the Manchester club also eyed a move for Jordan Henderson. City had big interest in Henderson and could have signed him for free as his contract at the Reds was close to expiring. He of course signed a new deal then, as he has just done so again.

Mark Lawrenson reveals secret battle with cancer (Sept 7th)

Former Liverpool defender and football pundit Mark Lawrenson has revealed that he has successfully overcome a secret battle with cancer. The former Republic of Ireland international told fans on Twitter that he had had a cancerous blemish removed from his face. He also declared that he’d been given the all clear, revealing his nerves at having to wait for the good news.

Dele Alli tips England to win Euro 2020 (Sept 7th)

Dele Alli says England can win Euro 2020 thanks to the players feeling as if there are “no limits” to their achievements. The Spurs player said: “I think we’ve definitely got the quality to win something and we can’t set any limits on what we can achieve. We feel like there is no limits, the only limit is what we put on ourselves which we shouldn’t do because we’ve got such great players.”

Atletico looking to up Hernandez release clause (Sept 7th)

Atletico Madrid want Lucas Hernandez to sign a new contract so they can increase his release clause to £135m. This news comes as Manchester United began to show interest in the Frenchman and it’s thought the bump up in exit figure would help fend off potential suitors. It’s not known if Hernandez or his agent are open to signing anything at this stage.

Clubs queuing round the block for De Jong (Sept 7th)

Tottenham are reportedly ready to rival the likes of Borussia Dortmund, PSG and Barcelona in a deal to sign Frenkie De Jong. The Dutch midfielder is valued at close to £40m by Ajax and is now considered among the best young talents in the Eredivisie. Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is said to be a known admirer of the player and could pursue him in January. Manchester City and Roma are also believed to be monitoring the situation.

Inter Miami CF planning to sign Ronaldo (Sept 7th)

David Beckham named his Miami football club this week and reports suggest he’s already eyeing players for their opening season in 2020. Cristiano Ronaldo is high on the wanted list to help increase the profile of the club, but you’d think he’d cost much more than the current MLS record signing of £11.05m. After a couple of years in Turin, perhaps CR7 will fancy Miami?

Juventus keen to sign Anthony Martial for free (Sept 7th)

Juventus are the latest team to express an interest in signing Anthony Martial, with the Turin side hoping to land the player on a free transfer at the end of his current contract. Manchester United have reportedly offered the Frenchman a bumper new deal, however, as they look to tie down his long-term future.

John Terry - "I'm still hungry" (Sept 8)

John Terry has stated that he still has the desire to play football at a high level, even hinting at a possible return to Aston Villa. Heaping praise on manager Steve Bruce, the former Chelsea and England captain revealed his sadness that the Midlanders weren’t able to get promoted, ultimately falling at the final hurdle in the playoff final against Fulham. Terry, 37, is set to play in a charity match for Stiliyan Petrov at Celtic Park this weekend, but may not be done playing competitively just yet.

Sherwood calls for lower league teams to act as feeder clubs for Premier League clubs (Sept 8)

Tim Sherwood has called for lower league teams to act as “feeder” clubs for Premier League teams. The comments are sure to generate controversy, with many lower league fans already choosing to boycott the EFL Trophy competition for its inclusion of Premier League and Championship “B Teams”. EFL in groundbreaking decision to allow 3pm kickoffs to be televised (Sept 8)

The EFL have made the seismic decision to allow Saturday 3pm kickoffs to be televised on the platform iFollow. With the top two divisions on the international break, the EFL are able to lift sanctions preventing the transmission of the coverage of Leagues One and Two within the UK. Midweek games had also been shown, in a move that started this season.

"Blame me" - McLeish looks to encourage Scotland players (Sept 8)

Scotland manager Alex McLeish is looking to encourage his Scotland players after they were soundly beaten by Belgium on Friday night. A 4-0 win for the World Cup semi-finalists could have been much worse for the Scots, in what is McLeish’s fourth defeat in five games, with one goal scored in that time. However, the boss shouldered the blame in the aftermath of the drubbing, saying “if anybody’s got to take the blame, it’s me for telling them to pass it”.

OUCH! Rüdiger apologises for brutal tackle on Pavard (Sept 8)

German central defender Antonio Rüdiger has apologised to French full-back Benjamin Pavard for a tackle that left his opponent with visible marks on his neck. Rüdiger tweeted his apology, insisting the challenge was not intentional, and wished the world Cup winner a speedy recovery.

Richarlison makes Brazil debut (Sept 8)

Richarlison replaced Roberto Firmino in the 75th minute of Brazil’s friendly with the USA, in what marked the 20-year-old’s first cap for his national side. The new Evertonian enjoyed a strong start to the seaso, before a red card against Bournemouth derailed his promising Premier League campaign. Brazil beat the United States 2-0, with goals from Neymar and Firmino.

Sane leaves Germany squad for "private reasons" (Sept 8)

Leroy Sane has left the Germany squad for what the national team describe as “private reasons”, following discussions with manager Joachim Low. It has been a turbulent six months for Sane, who despite winning the PFA Young Player of the Year Award, was left out of Germany’s squad for the World Cup in Russia, and has found it equally difficult to get playing time for Manchester City in the early season.

Gracia claims Watford are "the new Leicester" (Sept 8)

Watford boss Javi Gracia has stated that his Hornets side are “the new Leicester”, in reference to the Foxes’ astonishing Premier League title campaign in the 2014/15 season. Having won the first four games of the season, Watford have exhibited some fantastic football in the early-going of this year’s competition. Whilst it may be too early for us writers to crown them “the new Leicester”, their manager certainly has every confidence in his squad.

Real Madrid newbie Courtois "sad" at Chelsea fans' anger (Sept 8)

Thibaut Courtois has revealed that he is “sad” after some Chelsea fans reacted angrily to his Stamford Bridge exit, secured in the latter part of the summer transfer window. Moving to Real Madrid for a fee of £35 million, the Belgian will play for the cross-town rivals of Atletico Madrid – a club where he spent three years on loan previously. The 26-year-old claimed that fans who were upset by the move were not aware of “the full picture”.

Ramos has "clear conscience" after Salah injury (Sept 8)

Real Madrid central defender Sergio Ramos has claimed he has a “very clear conscience” after tangling with Mohamed Salah in the Champions League final, inflicting an injury upon the Egyptian that ended his match in the first half. Leaving the pitch in tears, many Liverpool fans took to social media to accuse Ramos of deliberately injuring their star forward, but the Spaniard claimed he never sets foot on the pitch with the intention of hurting another player. Despite his words, it seems Liverpool fans will remain largely unswayed in their opinions of the incident in Kyiv…

Ruben Neves wanted by Manchester clubs (Sept 9th)

Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves is being eyed up by Manchester City and Manchester United after his impressive start to the season. The Portuguese international has shone in central midfield for the newly-promoted team and is attracting interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe because of it.

John Terry set to earn £1.8m-per-year (Sept 9th)

John Terry is set to pocket £1.8m-year after tax when he joins Russian side Spartak Moscow. Terry is set to sign, either, a one-year deal or a two-year deal with Spartak, where he will earn £1.8m in wages, at least. Terry has been a free agent since he left Aston Villa at the end of last season.

Van Der Saar rubbishes claims he will be returning to Manchester United (Sept 9th)

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Saar has poured cold water on claims that he will become the new director of football at Old Trafford. Van Der Saar called the reports “nonsense”, with the Dutchman set to retain the same role at Ajax in Holland.

AC Milan interested in Chelsea midfielder (Sept 9th)

AC Milan are showing a keen interest in Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, who could be allowed to leave in the January transfer window. Ross Barkley, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho appear to have Chelsea’s starting places in midfield, with Fabregas left to watch on from the bench, Milan could now offer him a route out to Italy, having also been previously linked with the midfielder.

Rudiger prefers Sarri to Conte (Sept 9th)

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has said that he prefers Maurizio Sarri’s style of play to that of his former head coach Antonio Conte. Rudiger has praised Sarri’s high-pressing football, comparing it to Conte’s instructions to sit deep and soak up the pressure. Rudiger has started every game in the Premier League for Sarri.

Shaw is walking after head injury (Sept 9th)

Luke Shaw is up and walking about following a nasty head injury he suffered against Spain whilst playing for England on Saturday. Shaw collided with Dani Carvalhal and was forced off the pitch on a stretcher. It has now been revealed that he is awake and walking about following the incident.

Griezmann has claimed he would like to end his career in the MLS (Sept 9th)

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has claimed that he would like to end his career playing in the MLS, with Inter Miami CF and LA Galaxy his preferred options. Griezmann has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent seasons, but signed a new contract with Atletico over the summer.

Joe Gomez set for new Liverpool deal (Sept 10th)

Liverpool are set to hand defender Joe Gomez a new contract after his impressive start to the season. Reports suggest Gomez will sign an improved deal with Liverpool to match his wages with the club’s first-team regulars. Gomez has had an excellent start to the campaign so far, starting in each of Liverpool’s four Premier League games, as well as receiving a senior England call-up.

However, he has been restricted to just two substitute cameos in La Liga, as he appears to be struggling to adapt to life outside of Portugal.

Manchester City are interested in signing Julian Weigl from Borussia Dortmund after several failed attempts to sign central midfielders this summer. The Bundesliga giants will demand a sum worth at least £68 million for the German, however. The 22-year-old is regarded as a crucial player at Dortmund, leading them to put a huge asking price on his head. Any fee in that region would break City’s record purchase (currently Riyad Mahrez).

Lanzini recovery making good headway (Sept 12th)

West Ham star Manuel Lanzini is making progress in his rehabilitation efforts following a serious injury earlier this year. The attacking midfielder suffered severe knee damage while away on international duty some months ago, as he began preparations for the World Cup with his native Argentina. Lanzini is some way off from making his return to first-team training but does appear to be stepping up his efforts to recover, with work now ongoing at West Ham following a recovery period in Spain under orthopaedic surgeon Dr Ramon Cugat.

Everton’s major shareholder Farhad Moshiri has taken an even larger stake in the club. The Iranian business mogul had increased his share from 49.9% to 68.6% – and that figure is set to rise further still. As of no later than July of next year, Moshiri will increase his holding to 77.2%. Moshiri had initially made his foray into English football with an ownership stake in Arsenal, which he took with his business partner Alisher Usmanov in 2007.

Reds CL fixture against Napoli unchanged (Sept 12th)

Liverpool will indeed travel to Napoli’s Stadio San Paolo when the two sides meet in the Champions League next month, after suggestions the fixture could be moved. It was reported that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis had asked to play Champions League fixtures in Bari, 160 miles from Naples, but UEFA have now confirmed that no such request has been received.

Willian keen on new long-term Chelsea deal (12th Sept)

Chelsea winger Willian has reiterated his desire to put pen to paper on a new long-term deal at Stamford Bridge. Speaking in an honest and revealing interview on the club’s official website, Willian outlined his ambition to extend his stay in London, despite being linked with moves away over the summer. He said: “My mind was always like that [staying at Chelsea], always when I arrive here my plan was to stay here as long as possible and now I am here five years, I hope stay five more! I know I have two years of my contract left but I hope to stay even more years in the Premier League.”

Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel says that he is keen for Liverpool target Adrien Rabiot to stay at the club, even though he’s entered the final year of his contract in the French capital. Jurgen Klopp’s side have reportedly been in talks with Rabiot’s mother, who is his agent, about a possible transfer. He can sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign club from January onwards, but there has been some talk that PSG will allow the 23-year-old to leave in the winter window if he doesn’t commit his future to them, so that they can get a decent transfer fee for him.

Atletico Madrid’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, has emerged as a contender to take a similar role at Manchester United. It’s thought that United are keen on appointing a director of football as part of a major restructuring at the club. It’s that sort of man Ed Woodward is on the hunt for.

Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane is reportedly open to repairing his relationship with Cardiff City midfielder Harry Arter. Reports suggest an argument between Keane and Arter in May played a factor in the 28-year-old being left out of the country’s squad for the match against Poland. However, boss Martin O’Neill has revealed that Keane is likely to extend an olive branch to the 13-cap playmaker. The news comes amidst further reports of bust-ups in the Ireland camp, with experienced defender Stephen Ward appearing to leak a recollection of Keane and Jonathan Walters falling out via WhatsApp.

Barcelona are said to be tracking Liverpool’s Spanish left-back Alberto Moreno. The Catalan side are said to be looking for cover after Lucas Digne’s departure for Everton during the summer transfer window. Moreno has yet to play for Liverpool competitively this season and has fallen down the pecking order behind Andy Robertson – and was behind James Milner for much of the 2016/7 season as his form waned. He’s made a total of 136 appearances for the Reds since 2015, scoring three goals and assisting 11 more.

Fresh reports in Italy suggest Juventus are very keen to re-sign Paul Pogba from Manchester United next summer. The Frenchman has been regularly linked away from Old Trafford, somewhere he reportedly doesn’t quite feel at home – especially under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho. It’s thought that the midfielder would be open to a move away from his current side, and it’s likely a return to Turin would appeal. United, of course, will be doing everything they can to keep hold of their record signing.

Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller is backing Manchester City’s Leroy Sane to deliver on the biggest stages, despite the recent uncertainty around his future. Sane was left out of Pep Guardiola’s City side during the early stages of the new season, raising concerns over his long-term future in Manchester. He was also left on the bench during Germany’s fixture in the international break, before leaving the squad early to be with his partner for the birth of their child. Muller said: “He’s an exceptional talent with abilities that only very few people possess. I think Leroy is mature enough, and I have great confidence in him for the future.”

David Luiz is certainly enjoying life under Maurizio Sarri and he’s delivered what looks like a bit of a dig at former boss Antonio Conte with his latest comments. Speaking to Chelsea’s website, Luiz has been discussing the differences between Sarri’s reign at the club, compared to his Italian predecessor. “First of all he’s a great person, great as a human. I think his philosophy to live life is already great because he wants to enjoy every day. After that he is a great coach. Luke Shaw gives United injury boost (Sept 13th)

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw is hoping to return to action within a week. According to reports, Shaw is hopeful of facing Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday. There were fears over Shaw’s availability in the coming weeks after he suffered a head injury during the international break. Shaw was knocked unconscious in England’s 2-1 defeat to Spain in the UEFA Nations League. However, his recovery has clearly gone well and his time absent isn’t going to be as bad as was first thought.

Fulham are hoping to sign Ryan Sessegnon to a new contract after opening talks with his representatives. The England U21 international has less than two years remaining on his current deal and the Cottagers want to ensure that his value is maintained and he’s freshly committed to the club. During the summer, Spurs were heavily linked with a move for the winger, but that interest didn’t come to fruition.

Jerome Boateng has revealed exactly what he told Jose Mourinho on the phone when he turned down a move to Manchester United this summer. Both Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United were heavily linked with a move for the defender, but he opted to remain at Bayern. Real Madrid star Marco Asensio has this week revealed that he never had any intention of leaving the Spanish giants this summer, despite constant links to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. There had been rumours about a potential move for Asensio to the Reds, though no official bid for the player ended up being made. “My first option is always to triumph at Real Madrid. After that, you never know what can happen.”

Inter keen to tie down two key players amid United interest (Sept 13th)

Inter Milan are growing increasingly keen to tie down both Mauro Icardi and Milan Skriniar to new deals amid fears Manchester United are looking to buy the pair. Jose Mourinho’s desire to sign a new centre-back has been well documented over the summer, and Skriniar would definitely fill that need. Leicester are confident that they will be able to keep Harry Maguire at the club after the defender signed a new five-year deal. Maguire had been a target for Man United during the Summer, but no move transpired. Speaking ahead of Leicester’s game against Bournemouth, Leicester boss Claude Puel said that Maguire’s new contract was good for the Foxes, and that it was unlikely the player would leave so soon after signing it. “I don’t know the details. Ryan Fredericks has revealed what was said in the West Ham dressing room after the team slumped to a fourth consecutive defeat at the start of the Premier League season. The 4-0 thrashing on the opening weekend at the hands of Liverpool was followed up with a 2-1 loss at home to Bournemouth, before a frustrating 3-1 loss to Arsenal, a game in which the Hammers had led. Then followed the 1-0 loss to Wolves. Fredericks said: “There is no thought of letting things go. Everton face possible points deductions (Sept 14th)

Everton are facing a possible points deductions for tapping up Marco Silva whilst he was boss of Watford. The Toffees tried to pry the Portuguese man away from Watford, failed and then employed Sam Allardyce instead. Silva then subsequently lost his job with the Hornets shortly after. If the contact is found to have destabilised Watford last season, then a fine at very least will be issued, with the further possibility of points being taken.

Real Madrid have £330m to spend next summer, according to reports in Spain. President Florentino Perez is plotting a huge move for either Neymar or Mbappe with the cash. It was unlikely that either of the two PSG players would have joined this soon, but things could be very different next year.

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is hoping to return to action in time for the Manchester derby on November 11th. The Belgian suffered the injury in training and was set to miss two-three months of action. He’s been under the care of doctor Ramon Cugat, who is renowned for his help to speed up recovery from injuries. Reports suggest the brace around his knee has now been removed and he’s on target for a return in seven weeks’ time.

Liverpool are reportedly ready to firm up their long-standing interest in Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella. The Reds have been perennially linked with a move for the promising Italian midfielder, who has established himself as an integral part of the Cagliari team in the past year. The 21-year-old is held in high esteem by Cagliari and it’s claimed in the report that Barella is currently valued at a sizable fee of £35 million.
