With the current Premier League campaign drawing to a close, for a lot of clubs, attention is already turning to next season and as per usual, there are plenty of conversations taking place about which managers will be in charge of sides next season.
It’ll take just one sacking or appointment to set off the whole ‘manager-merry-go-round’ and it’s only a matter of time before we see how things shake out.
I’ve taken a look at the men in charge of the 20 Premier League clubs and assessed the probability of them still being in charge of their current clubs next summer:
Arsenal: Arsene Wenger - Chances of being in charge next season: 90%
A lot of Arsenal fans won’t be happy reading this, but I think it’s highly likely that Wenger stays in charge for at least one more season.
They only ways I see this changing are:
- If Arsenal don’t get the point they need at home to Aston Villa and somehow miss out on Champions League, which is highly unlikely.
- If he decides he’s had enough and steps down.
I can’t see either of those things happening so it’s ‘Wenger in’ for me.
Aston Villa: Eric Black - Chances of being in charge next season: 0%
Eric Black is only in temporary charge of Villa after a terrible season which saw them sack two managers and get relegated.
The club look likely to appoint Nigel Pearson in the near future.
Bournemouth: Eddie Howe - Chances of being in charge next season: 75%
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has done remarkably well to keep his side in the top flight despite major injuries to his star men.
They aren’t going to sack him, but there is a chance that other clubs, such as his boyhood team Everton, could look to take him.
Chelsea: Guus Hiddink - Chances of being in charge next season: 0%
Guus Hiddink took temporary charge of Chelsea for the second time after Jose Mourinho was sacked earlier this year.
He won’t be kept on permanently though as Antonio Conte will take his place on the Stamford Bridge hot seat after Euro 2016.
Crystal Palace: Alan Pardew - Chances of being in charge next season: 90%
Crystal Palace had an amazing start to their league campaign before a terrible post-Christmas slump that saw them freefall down the table.
Performances have improved in recent weeks and they are safe in the top-flight with an FA Cup final to look forward to.
The only reason I haven’t made this 100% is because I have a sneaky feeling that he could be in line to be England’s manager if Roy Hodgson departs after the summer.
Everton: Roberto Martinez - Chances of being in charge next season: 1%
When a fanbase seems to be together as one in calling for a manager’s head, it tends to only go one way.
However, Everton have a track record of sticking with managers so Martinez could be kept on, but I just don’t see it happening.
Leicester City: Claudio Ranieri - Chances of being in charge next season: 99%
Again, Leicester City aren’t going to sack Claudio Ranieri. He just guided them to the most unlikely league title win in over thirty years!
However, the Italy job will be up for grabs and he could fancy that.
He’s probably going to want to manage the Foxes in the Champions League but there is a tiny, tiny chance that he could leave if his country comes calling.
Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp - Chances of being in charge next season: 100%
The Reds have had a mixed campaign under Klopp, with some fantastic results and some pretty terrible ones too.
However, everyone can see the shoots of something special growing around Anfield and the German will be in charge next season as he looks to get the Reds fighting for that illusive Premier League title once again.
Manchester City: Manuel Pellegrini - Chances of being in charge next season: 0%
Despite a League Cup win, it’s not been a great final season for Manuel Pellegrini at Man City with his side in real danger of missing out on the Champions League to Manchester United.
We all know he’s not in charge next season as Pep Guardiola will make City his latest landing spot.
Manchester United: Louis van Gaal - Chances of being in charge next season: 80%
For a while it looked like Louis van Gaal’s days in Manchester were doomed but with an FA Cup final appearance earned and with the chance of a top four finish in sight, his side have finished the season well.
There is a chance he will go, but it’s only slight now.
Newcastle United: Rafael Benitez - Chances of being in charge next season: 2%
In order for Newcastle to stay up, they need to hope Sunderland don’t beat either Everton or Watford in one of their final two games and also hope that they can beat Tottenham at home.
Even then, Norwich City could overtake them too.
I don’t see things working out for the Magpies and I just can’t see Benitez choosing to manage a side in the Championship so unless they somehow manage to stay up, I think Rafa will be gone.
Norwich City: Alex Neil - Chances of being in charge next season: 95%
Norwich need to win their next two games and hope other results go in their favour if they want to stay in the top flight.
In truth, they look set for a return to the Championship but even then, I think they’ll stick with Alex Neil.
Stoke City: Mark Hughes - Chances of being in charge next season: 95%
Mark Hughes almost got his team to a cup final but Stoke have fallen away somewhat recently, although a top half finish would still be a good result for them.
I can’t see the Potters deciding to let him go but Hughes is highly thought of and other clubs could look to take him.
Southampton: Ronald Koeman - Chances of being in charge next season: 97%
Southampton have had a very, very good season and they aren’t going to be sacking Ronald Koeman.
However, like other top-flight managers, his stock has risen and he could be poached by a Champions League club from abroad.
Sunderland: Sam Allardyce - Chances of being in charge next season: 100%
I think Sunderland will stay up after a huge win over Chelsea at the weekend.
Even if they do go down, I think they’s stick with Big Sam but I don’t think that’ll be their concern.
Swansea City: Francesco Guidolin - Chances of being in charge next season: 20%
Swansea will hold a board meeting this week and the manager’s future will be on the agenda.
That sounds bad!
He has done well to keep the Swans in the league and they could even finish in the top half but I think we’ll see Brendan Rodgers in charge at the Liberty Stadium next year.
Tottenham Hotspur: Mauricio Pochettino - Chances of being in charge next season: 100%
Mauricio Pochettino took Spurs close to a title win but they ultimately couldn’t get the job done.
There is no way Spurs will let him go after he signed his new deal, even if other clubs do fancy taking him.
Watford: Quique Sanchez Flores - Chances of being in charge next season: 1%
Keeping Watford in the top flight should have been enough to keep Quique Sanchez Flores in a job, but it looks like the powers that be don’t agree.
West Brom: Tony Pulis - Chances of being in charge next season: 75%
Tony Pulis has indicated that he wants to stay at West Brom and despite some fan unrest, the board are likely to stick with him.
However, there are some murmurs in the Midlands which say he might walk if he can’t get assurances about the club’s transfer policy, so watch this space.
West Ham United: Slaven Bilic - Chances of being in charge next season: 100%
West Ham have had a great season and there’s no way that Slaven Bilic isn’t in charge for their first season at the Olympic Stadium.
